"if we missed the chance, it would cost us more efforts in the future," wen said. "the key to the issue is to take action." wen reviewed his visit to the democratic people's republic of korea (dprk) last week. "i have obtained certain positive results, which were achieved through joint efforts of china and the dprk, as well as the endeavors by all parties," he said. wen said the dprk had "showed no opposition to the talks and expressed willingness to tackle the issue through bilateral and multilateral dialogue." the dprk hoped to improve ties with the united states, as well as with japan and the rok. "that is the important impression i got during the visit," he said. he urged all parties to make constructive efforts to realize the aim. all parties previously held bilateral meetings within the framework of the six-party talks, wen said. "this arrangement constitutes an important part of the talks," he added. the bilateral and multilateral contacts "are not contradictory to that interaction," he said. china had always welcomed all parties to increase understanding and trust through bilateral dialogue, wen said. "hence, we support dprk and the united states holding serious and constructive dialogue, and also support dprk-japan and dprk-rok enhancing contact and improving ties." wen said china had done a great deal of work to push forward denuclearization of the korean peninsula and the relaunch of the six-party talks. "we strictly observed relevant resolutions of the united nations security council and fulfilled our obligations as a permanent member of the security council in the process," he said. wen said china had provided assistance and aid to the dprk for the country to develop economically and improve people's lives. "this is in line with the spirit of un security council resolutions." what china had done "aims to promote the six-party talks, advance denuclearization, and safeguard lasting peace and stability in northeast asia." "we are willing to continue the unremitting efforts to this end along with other parties," wen said. wen said japan, the rok and china were all in the northeast asia and members of the six-party talks. "the issues of lasting peace and stability in this area and denuclearization in the korean peninsula are of common concern," he said. the three countries has agreed that problems should be resolved peacefully through dialogue and negotiation, he said. the six-party talks, which involve china, the dprk, the united states, the rok, russia and japan, have been stalled since december last year. the dprk announced its withdrawal from the talks after the un security council adopted a presidential statement that said the dprk's april 5 rocket launch was "in contravention of security council resolution 1718" and urged the early resumption of the six-party talks. http://english.china.com/zh_cn/news/china/11020307/20091010/15662666.html 2009-10-14 22:35
